Avarice causes us to cling tightly to our possessions, to fear what will happen if we don't store up enough or build a big enough barn. To overcome this greed, we must remember that not only our things but our very selves belong to God. To be fully alive means that we remember that we don't live in a world of scarcity but worship a God of abundance, who lavishly gives to us. When we see all things as gifts from God, we can live gratefully and generously.
