The Good News Is Rooted in Justice, Mercy, and Faithfulness

This is who Jesus is. And this is who we are called to be. The woman left that courtyard changed — not because she was condemned, but because she was seen. Fully seen, in her sin and her fear and her dignity, by the Light of the world. And the religious leaders left changed too, at least for a moment — because for just an instant, they allowed that same Light to fall on them.

The question the gospel asks us today is simple: what will we do with the Light? Will we keep our hands pressed over our eyes, protecting the darkness we've grown comfortable with? Or will we let it fall on us — on our judgments, our pride, our carefully held stones — and allow it to do its work?

Here is the good news: the Light doesn't expose us in order to destroy us. It exposes us in order to free us. Jesus didn't come to condemn the world. He came so that the world might be saved through him. That is justice. That is mercy. That is faithfulness.
