Even Jesus often went away from the crowds to rest and pray, even though the needs were great and he knew his time with them was short. When we follow that example, when we follow those unforced rhythms of grace, established by God from the very beginning, we realize that even difficult, important work is easier and we are less weary. We are meant for work and for rest, for labor and for worship, for care and for quiet prayer. When we follow Jesus and walk and work and rest in his way, we find a balance, a rhythm, that is life—giving.
